The civil ceremony took place in the Villa’s park, amidst centuries-old pines and the breath of history that only the Appian Way can offer. But the true beating heart of the emotion arrived shortly after: the transition from the Western rite to the Chinese Tea Ceremony.
It was a moment of incredible spiritual intensity. Witnessing the couple honor Jordana’s Asian roots in the heart of the Roman countryside is the very essence of a Destination Wedding. The details of the tea sets, the ritual gestures filled with respect, and the vibrant colors offered rare photographic inspiration, transforming Roman solemnity into a multicultural embrace.
The Soul of the Shoot: A Narrative Between Editorial and Reportage
The photographic session for Daniele and Jordana was an exhilarating creative challenge. We sought to embrace the duality of the location: on one hand, the aristocratic elegance of Villa Appia Antica’s interiors, and on the other, the monumental strength of the Appian Way.
In the getting-ready photos, I pursued a nearly editorial style: I played with architectural shadows and the natural light that caressed the fabrics of Jordana’s gown, creating timeless portraits that highlighted her Eastern grace within a neoclassical setting.
The heart of the shoot, however, revealed itself during the couple’s session along the ancient cobblestones of the Regina Viarum. Here, I chose an authentic reportage approach: I allowed the couple to move freely among the archaeological ruins, capturing their connection as the sun dipped behind the centuries-old pines. The result is a series of cinematic images, where the contrast between the fragility of a moment of love and the eternity of Roman stone creates a breathtaking visual tension.
The photos dedicated to the Tea Ceremony were equally essential, where the focus shifted to detail: the gestures of the hands, the delicate steam, and the respectful glances toward their families. Each shot was designed to capture the precious colors of this tradition, which brought a vibrant touch to the day’s typically Mediterranean palette.
Finally, the photos of the imperial table and the party brought the story full circle. Moving from the clean, symmetrical shots of the décor (a true feast for the eyes), we transitioned into dynamic photography—defined by motion blur, movement, and warm lights—to convey the full energy of an unforgettable Roman night.
